If your footer isn’t displaying the correct version on Webflow or updates aren’t showing, it’s likely due to symbol sync issues, outdated components, or an unpublished update.
1. Verify That You Edited a Symbol (If Used)
- If your footer is a Symbol (global component), any edits need to be applied within the Symbol itself.
- To check: Select the footer in Designer. If it shows "Symbol" in the top label, it’s reusable.
- To update: Double-click the Symbol, make edits, then exit Symbol editing mode.
- All instances across pages will then reflect the changes automatically.
2. Check for Overrides in Specific Pages
- If a Symbol is used but a particular page still shows an old version, the Symbol might have been unlinked or disconnected.
- Inspect other pages where the footer appears and replace the outdated content with the updated Symbol if needed.
- Delete older footers and re-insert the updated Symbol.
3. Publish to Both Webflow.io and Custom Domain
- After making changes, click Publish (top right corner).
- Ensure you select both your Webflow.io subdomain and any custom domain.
- Webflow updates will not appear on a live site unless published to the correct domain.
4. Clear Browser and CDN Cache
- Browsers or Webflow's CDN may cache old versions.
- Clear your browser cache or test in incognito mode to rule out local caching.
- You can also force-refresh with Ctrl+Shift+R (Windows) or Cmd+Shift+R (Mac).
- Some pages may contain custom footers not tied to the global Symbol.
- Go through each page and ensure only the correct updated footer Symbol is used.
- Remove any manually added footers that don’t sync with the Symbol.
Summary
Ensure your footer is a Symbol, update it inside the Symbol editor, replace outdated instances, and re-publish to all domains. Also, clear cache to confirm changes display correctly.
