Webflow automatically creates backups (also called versions), but you cannot delete them to free up space. These backups do not count against your hosting or asset limits.
1. Understand What Webflow Backups Are
- Webflow automatically saves versioned backups of your project as you work.
- These backups are accessible via the Project Settings > Backups tab or from the Editor’s “Backups” panel.
- You can manually create additional backups at any time by clicking Create Backup.
2. You Cannot Delete Backups in Webflow
- Webflow does not allow you to delete either automatic or manual backups.
- There is no way to reduce the number of saved backups to free up storage or improve load speed.
- Webflow manages these internally and they do not consume your project’s bandwidth, asset storage, or CMS item limits.
3. What You Can Remove to Free Space
If you're trying to reduce usage for performance or limits, focus on:
- Assets (in the Assets panel): Delete unused images, videos, audio files, and documents.
- CMS Collections: Delete unused Collection items or entire collections if you're approaching the CMS limit.
- Pages or Symbols: Remove unused static pages or symbols.
4. Consider Project Plan Limits
- Backup quantity may differ based on your Project Plan (e.g., free users have fewer backup restore points, but still can’t delete them).
- Upgraded plans provide more restore points, but still without deletion access.
Summary
You cannot delete automatic backups in Webflow, and they do not impact your project’s storage or performance. To free up space, remove unused assets or CMS items instead.
